Mongolian Calligraphy Art Honored Through International Competition 2025

Date:

To honor the timeless beauty of Mongolian calligraphy art, the MONTSAME National News Agency announced the 29th “Mongolian Calligrapher 2025” competition. The event celebrates the 120th birth anniversary of renowned scholar and cultural icon Rinchen Byamba (1905–1977).

The “Khumuun Bichig” newspaper is organizing the competition with support from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth. The goal is to highlight traditional Mongolian script and inspire appreciation for Byamba’s enduring legacy.

Entries will be accepted until December 5, 2025. The contest features eight categories, including one for “Ethnic Mongols and foreign citizens proficient in Mongol script.” This special category, created three years ago, continues to draw global interest in Mongolian calligraphy art.

Participants must submit handwritten works using the traditional vertical Mongolian script. The theme is “The Great Scholar Rinchen Byamba.” Contestants can use brush and ink and enjoy full creative freedom. They may explore Byamba’s life, literary achievements, translations, or his impact on modern scholarship.

Foreign contestants can mail their entries to the MONTSAME National News Agency in Ulaanbaatar. Organizers will announce the results by the end of 2025. The top entries will be published in the first issue of “Khumuun Bichig” in 2026.

An exhibition of winning works will open in early January 2026, followed by an award ceremony. These events aim to promote Mongolian calligraphy art and inspire artists to preserve cultural traditions through creative expression.

Officials expect the competition to strengthen global appreciation of Mongolian script. They believe it will also encourage young artists to explore the roots of their national identity.

Through this initiative, Mongolia celebrates both its linguistic heritage and the visionary influence of Rinchen Byamba. The “Mongolian Calligrapher 2025” event ensures that Mongolian calligraphy art continues to thrive across generations and borders.
