Mongolian Peacekeepers Honored by President Khurelsukh

Date:

President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh honored the 14th rotation of Mongolian peacekeepers serving in South Sudan. These peacekeepers have played a crucial role in maintaining peace and security in one of the world’s most challenging regions. Through their tireless efforts, they have protected civilians, supported humanitarian aid, and demonstrated Mongolia’s strong commitment to global peace.

During the ceremony, President Khurelsukh praised the peacekeepers for their exceptional courage, professionalism, and endurance. As Commander-in-Chief of Mongolia’s Armed Forces, he personally thanked the soldiers for their invaluable contributions. Additionally, he recognized the unwavering support of their families, who help ensure the success of these missions. Without the sacrifices of their families, these peacekeepers could not fulfill their duties abroad.

Mongolian peacekeepers have served in South Sudan under the United Nations mission. In 2024, they carried out critical tasks, including protecting civilians, securing UN bases, and assisting with humanitarian operations. Despite the harsh conditions they faced, they performed their duties with steadfast commitment. As a result, their efforts not only bolstered Mongolia’s international reputation but also reinforced the country’s national defense policies.

President Khurelsukh awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Military Merit to Colonel Erdenebileg Dulamjav and Lieutenant Colonel Shinebayar Nyamsuren. These officers were honored for their exceptional leadership and contributions to peace support operations. Moreover, several other service members received the Order of Military Merit and the Medal for Peacekeeping Service in recognition of their dedication and hard work.

Currently, Mongolia deploys 896 peacekeepers to various UN missions worldwide. Of these, 14.2 percent are women, placing Mongolia 19th among 121 countries contributing troops to UN peacekeeping efforts. Furthermore, a Mongolian general now serves as the Force Commander in the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. This marks a historic achievement for Mongolia, as it is the first time a Mongolian officer has taken on this leadership role.

Mongolia’s commitment to peacekeeping continues to grow. Over the years, the country has steadily expanded its involvement, particularly in leadership positions and promoting female participation. These efforts highlight Mongolia’s unwavering dedication to global peace and security. Looking ahead, Mongolia’s role in peacekeeping operations is expected to further expand as the country continues to support UN missions.

In conclusion, the service and bravery of the Mongolian peacekeepers honored today remain essential to the success of peacekeeping missions worldwide. Their ongoing commitment ensures that Mongolia will continue to play a significant role in promoting peace, security, and stability across the globe.
