Mungunzul Bat-Erdene Wins Silver at Asian Chess Championship

Mongolian chess player Mungunzul Bat-Erdene made history by winning a silver medal at the Asian Individual Chess Championships. The tournament took place in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, and Mungunzul’s outstanding performance earned her second place in the women’s division.

Throughout the competition, Mungunzul scored 7 points out of 9, tying with three other players. However, her superior tiebreak score allowed her to secure second place. With this remarkable achievement, Mungunzul Bat-Erdene became the first Mongolian to win a silver medal at this prestigious event.

As a result of her success, Mungunzul earned the Woman International Master (WIM) title. Moreover, this victory earned her a spot in the FIDE World Cup. Additionally, Mungunzul fulfilled one of the norms required for the International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM) titles. Her international rating also increased by an impressive 42.8 points.

Another significant milestone came from FIDE Master Chinguun Sumiya. He fulfilled one of the norms required for the International Master title. In the women’s division, notable performances included Grandmaster Munguntuul Batkhuyag’s 18th-place finish. Other Mongolian women competitors included Candidate Master Bayasgalan Khishigbaatar in 34th, Uuriintuya Uurtsaikh in 36th, and Naransolongo Zorigoo in 50th.

In the men’s division, International Master Amartuvshin Ganzorig placed 28th. FIDE Master Chinguun Sumiya came in 72nd, while Sodbilegt Naranbold placed 88th. International Master Gan-Erdene Sugar finished in 104th place.

The final round of the championship included a special award ceremony attended by Zandanshatar Gombojav, the Head of the Office of the President of Mongolia. He also serves as the President of the Mongolian Chess Federation.

In total, 254 players from 34 countries participated in the Championships. Among them, 221 players held international chess titles. Countries like Russia, India, China, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan were well-represented.

Mungunzul Bat-Erdene’s historic silver medal highlights the growing strength of Mongolian chess on the international stage.
