North Korea Launches Special Military Lectures to Reinforce Loyalty to Paektu Bloodline Ahead of April 25 Anniversary

Date:

The Korean People’s Army General Political Bureau ordered special lectures in late March. Specifically, these lectures aim to reinforce loyalty to the Paektu bloodline before the April 25 Korean People’s Revolutionary Army founding anniversary. The GPB distributed ideological study materials declaring that the Paektu bloodline is a peerless family. This family can carry forward the leadership lineage of our revolution, the materials state. Consequently, soldiers must uphold its security with a spirit of absolute devotion.

The lectures promote Kim Jong Un’s leadership achievements in military strengthening. However, a secondary purpose drives deeper loyalty into the ranks. The study materials contain passages urging complete trust in the Paektu bloodline. Defending this bloodline with absolute devotion protects state and people security. Furthermore, the Paektu bloodline is a peerless family of extraordinary leaders born with special qualities.

Notably, the materials reference Kim Jong Un’s daughter Kim Ju Ae as a guiding star. The text stops short of naming her directly. The passage describes the guiding star who is always by the Marshal’s side. This star watches over the entire process of the people’s growth together. The guiding star honorific is normally reserved for the supreme leader. Thus, its application to Kim Ju Ae represents a pointed political signal. This succession signaling intensifies through subtle but deliberate linguistic choices.

This is not the first time state media has applied this term to Kim Ju Ae. For example, on March 15, 2024, state media used the expression in plural form. Kim Jong Un and Kim Ju Ae had attended the Kangdong General Greenhouse complex inauguration. They also observed airborne training exercises together that day. Analysts noted the usage could indicate Kim Ju Ae had entered the line of succession. However, others cautioned the term may have referred to the Paektu bloodline more broadly. The reappearance of guiding star language during military lectures suggests intentional messaging.

The materials also include an anecdote about Kim Jong Un teaching Kim Ju Ae tank driving. This occurred during his March 19 visit to the Pyongyang No. 60 Training Base. The Capital Defense Corps oversees this facility. North Korean state media widely reported that episode at the time. The special lectures explicitly aim to cement Paektu bloodline legitimacy. Therefore, the guiding star expression reinforces that narrative directly. The regime appears to be preempting internal resistance to a fourth-generation succession. Early loyalty consolidation within the military remains a top priority. As a result, the succession signaling intensifies as North Korea prepares for its next leadership chapter.

The study materials exhort soldiers to take pride in serving this peerless family. They should serve through the fourth and fifth generations for 100 and 200 years. Officers must build combat readiness and cultivate young soldiers as all-capable fighters. In parallel with this ideological campaign, the military is preparing April 25 events. The Korean People’s Army General Staff and Ministry of National Defense are organizing competitions. For instance, these include marksmanship competitions, artillery firing competitions, and tactical training competitions.

Orders have been issued for each corps to organize basketball, volleyball, and soccer competitions. Swimming competitions will also build unit cohesion among the troops. The combination of political indoctrination and competitive military exercises serves multiple purposes. The regime aims to boost morale and tighten internal discipline simultaneously. Consequently, ongoing domestic and external tensions provide the backdrop for these efforts.
