North Korea has accelerated mechanized construction efforts by equipping military construction units with modern heavy machinery. Consequently, the deliveries support Kim Jong Un’s 20×10 regional development policy across rural areas.
A source in South Pyongan province said the 124th Regiment, established to build factories, received new equipment during a ceremony late last month. Moreover, this marked the fourth such ceremony in 2025 for construction units nationwide. The units now have bulldozers, excavators, tower cranes, dump trucks, concrete mixers, and steamrollers.
Most machinery comes from leading Chinese manufacturers such as SANY, XCMG, and SDLG. Additionally, some equipment was modified locally to suit North Korean conditions, including Chollima and Ponghwa models. The Party described the equipment as part of bilateral construction cooperation.
Officials attending the ceremony emphasized that mechanization is a key step in modernizing provincial industry. They also said these mechanized construction efforts would accelerate factory and hospital projects under the 20×10 policy. Workers reportedly nicknamed the new machinery “primary weapons” for driving industrial progress.
After receiving the equipment, soldiers pledged to repay the Workers’ Party’s trust by achieving tangible results. Furthermore, training sessions for operation and maintenance began immediately at multiple construction sites in the province. Authorities and local residents reportedly welcomed the shipment as a demonstration of the Party’s support for regional development.
The source added that soldiers and workers have been chanting slogans highlighting the shift from manual labor to mechanized construction efforts. Additionally, the provincial ad hoc committee promoting the 20×10 policy described these efforts as critical for boosting local prosperity and advancing industrial modernization.
Observers note that North Korea increasingly relies on mechanized construction efforts to compensate for labor shortages and improve efficiency. By integrating heavy machinery with military construction units, Pyongyang aims to achieve faster project completion while demonstrating industrial strength.
Looking forward, additional deliveries of machinery are expected to expand across other provinces. Therefore, North Korea’s continued focus on mechanized construction efforts reflects a strategic push to modernize infrastructure and strengthen rural industry under state-led initiatives.
