North Korea Rejects G7 Call to Abandon Nuclear Program, Vows to Strengthen Capabilities

Date:

North Korea has firmly rejected the G7 foreign ministers’ demand to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, instead vowing to enhance and expand its nuclear capabilities.

In a statement released on Monday via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s Foreign Ministryasserted that its nuclear arsenal would exist permanently as a “powerful means of justice” to defend the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and fundamental interests. The ministry further stated that its nuclear program serves as a deterrent against war on the Korean Peninsula and contributes to global strategic stability.

The announcement came in response to the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting held in Quebec, Canada, last week, where officials—including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio—called on Pyongyang to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions and abandon its weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

North Korean diplomats dismissed the G7’s position, emphasizing that the country’s nuclear policies are legally enshrined and irreversible. The Foreign Ministry stated that these laws would “not change according to the recognition of anyone.”

North Korea has continued its military expansion, with state media reporting earlier this month that the country is actively developing a nuclear-powered submarine. The latest developments indicate an escalation in tensions as Pyongyang continues to defy international calls for denuclearization.
