Premium Pork Supply Boost in Hualien

Date:

Hualien County is investing NT$10 million to strengthen its premium pork supply and stabilize the local market. Officials announced the plan, emphasizing its importance for food safety, efficiency, and consumer trust.

The initiative will be carried out with joint funding from the county government and the Guangfeng Farmers’ Association. The government will provide NT$8 million in subsidies, while the association will contribute NT$2 million. The project is scheduled to begin soon.

Leaders said the investment will focus on upgrading meat-processing facilities and modernizing cold-chain systems. With these improvements, Hualien aims to reduce losses during transportation and preserve freshness with precise low-temperature control. This will ensure that pork products reach consumers in better condition.

Guangfeng Farmers’ Association has played a central role in the county’s livestock sector for years. It has focused on raising production and improving quality, which has positioned Hualien as a competitive player in Taiwan’s pork industry. Officials believe this new plan will accelerate those efforts.

Hualien County Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei highlighted the broader significance of the investment. She said agriculture reflects both the land and the hard work of local farmers. Hsu promised continued support for agricultural development, covering crop promotion, fruit exports, and livestock investments.

The premium pork supply project also addresses rising wholesale prices, which have placed pressure on both producers and consumers. By strengthening the supply chain, the county hopes to stabilize the market and build resilience against future disruptions.

Experts have noted that reliable cold-chain logistics are essential for modern livestock industries. They help maintain quality, extend shelf life, and reduce food waste. Hualien’s plan aligns with these industry standards and demonstrates its commitment to long-term competitiveness.

Moreover, officials expect the upgrades to increase consumer confidence in local products. Improved transparency, on-site grading, and better preservation will give buyers stronger assurance of food quality. This will also help Hualien pork stand out in an increasingly demanding market.

The county government has made clear that agriculture remains a cornerstone of its economy. With this investment, Hualien aims not only to protect farmers’ livelihoods but also to strengthen its reputation for quality. The premium pork supply plan will serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
