Road Infrastructure Upgrades Completed in Ulaanbaatar

Date:

Ulaanbaatar continues to improve its road infrastructure with over 100 kilometers upgraded since the beginning of 2025. According to the Capital City’s Road Development Office, 96 percent of planned roadworks are now complete. The total work covers 100.9 kilometers across the Mongolian capital.

This ambitious development plan launched by the Governor’s Office targeted 104.4 kilometers of roads across 44 key areas. Officials aimed to ease traffic, boost connectivity, and modernize aging streets. Significant upgrades have already finished on two of the city’s busiest roads—Nairamdal Avenue and Enkhtaivan Avenue. These avenues serve as main thoroughfares for daily commuters and freight transport.

In addition to those major arteries, roads in neighborhoods like Sharga Morit, Yargait, Shadivlan, and Goodoiin Am also saw improvement. City officials confirmed that the upgrades included laying new asphalt concrete, improving manhole cover alignments, and installing updated drainage systems. Teams also replaced damaged roadside barriers to enhance safety.

Repair crews are working during nighttime hours to reduce traffic disruptions. Scheduled maintenance this week targets two to three new locations, continuing the push for city-wide coverage. The Governor’s Office prioritized road infrastructure as part of a broader urban development strategy. These projects support growing transportation demands and improve the city’s livability.

According to the Road Development Office, the city’s rapid population growth and rising vehicle numbers increased the urgency for improvements. Public officials say these roadworks will reduce travel times and extend the lifespan of key routes. More efficient roads also support emergency services and public transportation.

Ongoing road upgrades align with broader goals for safer, smarter city planning in Ulaanbaatar. Urban planners are now focusing on long-term traffic management and sustainable infrastructure. Authorities confirmed that all current work is scheduled to wrap up before winter begins. Early planning for next year’s projects has already started.

Experts emphasize the importance of continued investment in road infrastructure to support economic growth and reduce urban congestion. With most work now nearing completion, residents can expect better road conditions and smoother commutes ahead.
