Samsung Tri-Fold Launch: New Era in Foldable Phones

Date:

Samsung tri-fold phones make a bold entry this week as the company prepares to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. The launch signals Samsung tri-fold’s push to redefine foldable devices and strengthen the company’s position in next-generation mobile technology.

The tri-fold smartphone introduces a new design with a display folding three times. The 6.5-inch cover display provides a traditional smartphone experience. Meanwhile, opening the device reveals a 10-inch main screen, surpassing the 8-inch display of the Galaxy Z Fold7. The device aims to merge smartphones, tablets, and laptops into a single innovative form factor.

Industry insiders expect the phone to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a 200-megapixel camera with 100x zoom. Samsung has optimized software for multiwindow functionality across the three screens. The company also plans to integrate the device into its Galaxy ecosystem, including Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, and Samsung Health, reinforcing Samsung tri-fold’s ecosystem strategy.

Samsung has refined foldable technology since 2019, but competition is rising. Huawei currently leads the market with a 45 percent share, while Samsung’s foldable share fell to 9 percent in Q2. Apple has also hinted at an upcoming foldable iPhone, increasing market competition.

Experts say the Samsung tri-fold represents more than immediate sales. An industry source noted the device aims to reinforce Samsung’s technological leadership and shape consumer perceptions, rather than generate mass sales. Initial production is expected to range between 50,000 and 200,000 units in select markets.

Pricing remains uncertain but is estimated around 4 million won ($2,800). Samsung confirmed it is still evaluating pricing options internally.

The launch reflects Samsung tri-fold’s ambition to lead foldable innovation. Analysts suggest the tri-fold design could reshape expectations for mobile devices, combining portability with a tablet-sized experience.

Samsung tri-fold highlights the company’s continued investment in foldable technology and its commitment to staying ahead in a competitive mobile market. The device will attract significant attention from tech enthusiasts and premium consumers.
