Shared Values Strengthen Taiwan-Palau Ties

Date:

Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday to begin a week-long state visit. Taiwan greeted him with full military honors, including a 21-gun salute at the Presidential Office. Both governments emphasized their shared values as the foundation of their strong relationship.

President Whipps brought a delegation with him. He delivered a speech praising Taiwan for upholding democracy, the rule of law, and mutual respect. These principles, he said, closely align with Palau’s own national values. He stressed that their shared values form a strong bond between the two countries.

He also expressed concern about the global challenges to peace and freedom. Despite this, he remained hopeful. Whipps said that nations like Taiwan and Palau can lead by example. They can show that shared values can bring lasting stability and a safer future.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te welcomed Whipps warmly. Lai called the visit a milestone in the 26 years of Taiwan-Palau diplomatic relations. He thanked Whipps for Palau’s unwavering support of Taiwan on the international stage. He emphasized how this support has helped Taiwan remain active in the global community.

Lai believes the visit will strengthen cooperation. He predicted positive outcomes for both countries. He said they could work more closely in areas such as development, security, and diplomacy.

Later in the day, both leaders witnessed the signing of two key agreements. One was a technical cooperation agreement. The other focused on training and exchange programs for diplomatic personnel. These agreements aim to deepen ties and promote professional collaboration.

Both countries have already partnered in areas like healthcare, education, and tourism. This visit seeks to expand those partnerships further. President Lai noted that real friendship is built through action and consistency. Palau, he said, has shown both.

In conclusion, the Taiwan-Palau relationship continues to grow stronger. Their shared values guide this partnership. Through mutual respect and joint effort, both nations aim to contribute more to regional peace and global cooperation.
