Snow Removal Fleet Strengthens Ulaanbaatar Winter Readiness

Date:

Ulaanbaatar has strengthened its winter preparedness by adding 10 Howo V7X vehicles to the city’s snow removal fleet. These machines clear snow, spread de-icing materials, and perform other critical utility tasks. Moreover, their deployment marks a major step in improving city safety and efficiency.

The vehicles operate for 8–20 hours per shift, carry over 10 tons of salt or chemicals, and spread materials across 6–15 meters. In addition, they have a 400-liter fuel capacity and Euro-5 compliant engines, which enhance performance while reducing emissions. Authorities will also use the vehicles for waste transport during warmer months, increasing operational flexibility.

Seven domestic and foreign companies supplied the vehicles, demonstrating a coordinated effort to modernize the snow removal fleet. Furthermore, the city has received more than 170 pieces of specialized machinery and equipment under this ongoing program. Consequently, officials will assign the vehicles to the nine city districts, the Department of Geodesy and Water Construction, the City Landscaping Authority, the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, and other agencies to improve efficiency.

Previously, Ulaanbaatar acquired 10 snow removal and pushing vehicles, eight sweeping machines, 10 small snow plows, and 46 vacuum units for light waste. The Governor’s Office highlights that renewing the urban fleet in phases keeps streets cleaner, supports public health, and reduces winter hazards.

In addition, municipal authorities plan to purchase 301 more special-purpose vehicles this year. These vehicles will support waste transport, street cleaning, and water facility operations, funded by the city budget. Experts note that a modern snow removal fleet improves service efficiency and reduces accidents caused by icy or blocked roads.

City officials stress that continuous fleet modernization ensures safe, clean, and comfortable urban conditions. Investing in reliable snow removal and utility equipment protects citizens and supports long-term infrastructure planning.

By expanding the snow removal fleet, Ulaanbaatar sets a benchmark for winter readiness. As a result, authorities remain committed to keeping operations prepared and citizens safe throughout the year.
