Mongolia recently highlighted its social development priorities at the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee session. H.E. Ankhbayar Nyamdorj, Mongolia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, addressed key social, humanitarian, and cultural issues. His speech came ahead of the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) in Doha, Qatar, and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration on gender equality.
Nyamdorj stressed the need to accelerate progress in social development. He emphasized gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as central to Mongolia’s future. He also highlighted the protection of vulnerable groups, such as youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. These priorities are in line with Mongolia’s national strategies, including “Vision 2050” and the Government’s Action Program for 2024-2028. These plans aim to strengthen social systems, expand opportunities, and promote inclusivity for all citizens.
One of the key aspects of Mongolia’s approach is the protection of vulnerable populations. Nyamdorj outlined various efforts to improve access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and social welfare. He also discussed initiatives to improve employment conditions, particularly for marginalized communities. Legal protections are being strengthened to ensure fair and equal opportunities in the labor market, aiming to reduce discrimination and promote inclusive economic growth.
Mongolia’s social development policies also align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Nyamdorj urged the international community to take swift action on these critical issues. He emphasized that equal opportunities must be the foundation of all social development efforts. Policies promoting fairness, equity, and inclusion are essential to building a better future for all people.
Looking ahead, Mongolia remains committed to advancing its social development priorities. The government plans to continue aligning its policies with international standards while addressing the specific challenges faced by its population. These efforts aim not only to improve the well-being of Mongolian citizens but also to contribute to global progress. Mongolia seeks to create more opportunities for its people, particularly the most vulnerable groups, while working towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
