“Soongsil will open the AX era that harmonizes technology and humanity,” Lee said. He added that the institution seeks to cultivate future leaders who use AI responsibly while prioritizing moral integrity.
Through the AX initiative, the university plans to integrate artificial intelligence into every facet of teaching, research, and campus management. The approach positions Soongsil as a pioneer in AI native education, focusing on creating synergy between innovation and ethics.
The university will weave AI into all disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, and arts. This approach, according to officials, encourages students to understand technology as a force that should serve people, not replace them.
Government and industry leaders, including Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, attended the ceremony. They praised Soongsil’s strategy as a forward-looking step that balances AI progress with humanistic education.
To strengthen this AI native education model, the university signed partnership agreements with 15 major AI companies. These include Doosan Robotics, Innogrid, Spark-X, and Upstage. Together, they will collaborate to establish a comprehensive AI innovation ecosystem.
The university also unveiled plans to create a new college dedicated to AI-based education and research. It will expand digital infrastructure, build advanced computing facilities, and foster cross-disciplinary projects that combine technology with creativity.
With deep roots in technology education, Soongsil has a long history of innovation. It established Korea’s first computer science department in 1970, setting the foundation for today’s AI-driven transformation.
