Soran bids farewell to its trio format following the release of the mini album “Dream” on Friday. The Seoul-based indie rock band announced that it will continue as a solo project led by vocalist Ko Young-bae. This transition marks a significant turning point for the group and its fans. Soran originally consisted of four members, but became a trio last year when one member departed. Now, Seo Myeon-ho and Lee Tae-wook have decided to leave the band entirely. Ko, the remaining vocalist, will carry on as the sole member. The changes come after careful discussions about the band’s future and contract renewals this spring.
Ko described the decision as difficult, especially as the group leader. He told reporters at a recent press conference held by their agency MPMG in Seoul’s Mapo-gu district that the timing felt right for the split. The band wanted to avoid upsetting fans, so they released “Dream” as a final offering that expresses gratitude and empathy. The album’s themes center on dreams and youth, reflecting the shared history and hopes of the three bandmates. Seo shared that the project was inspired by the time spent with their loyal fans, aiming to thank them for their unwavering support through ups and downs.
Meanwhile, guitarist Lee Tae-wook revealed that the band is preparing for a final concert at Yes24 Live Hall in January. He emphasized the group’s busy schedule and said there is little time for sadness. Looking ahead, Ko plans to maintain and refine Soran’s signature musical style in his solo work. He joked that a sudden change to a dance genre would feel out of place. Additionally, Ko expressed hope that the original trio might reunite one day for future performances.
Industry observers note that this move reflects a broader trend where bands evolve to fit new creative and personal circumstances. Soran bids farewell to its trio phase, but the band’s legacy will likely continue through Ko’s solo career and potential future collaborations. Fans will watch closely as Ko navigates this new chapter and the band concludes its era as a trio with the release of “Dream.”
