South Korea Goyang Hosts Asia-Pacific Local Government Summit

South Korea Goyang is preparing to host a major Asia-Pacific summit for local governments, marking a historic first for Korea. Moreover, this 10th United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific Congress will attract around 500 delegates from over 220 cities in 22 countries.

The event will take place at Kintex in Goyang. Therefore, South Korea Goyang authorities are coordinating closely with police and fire departments to ensure smooth logistics. Additionally, transportation, lodging, and emergency services are undergoing final checks.

The program features sessions on cultural exchange, climate action, and intercity cooperation. On the first day, cities will present case studies. Then, the second day will open with the main ceremony, followed by detailed discussions from previous sessions.

Highlights include a roundtable with regional government leaders and a forum on sustainable and self-reliant cities. Furthermore, discussions will cover renewable energy, circular economies, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Among speakers are UN Special Envoy Jean Todt, Vice Mayor Gao Jin of Yiwu, and Daria Turley from Australia.

On the final day, a general assembly and executive meeting will set plans for future collaboration. Meanwhile, additional sessions will explore youth leadership, job creation, and urban growth strategies. Cultural programs will also be open to the public, including traditional Korean percussion and K-pop performances.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan stated that the event positions Goyang as a central hub for international municipal diplomacy. He added that meticulous preparations aim to ensure a successful congress.

South Korea Goyang expects the summit to strengthen ties among Asia-Pacific cities. As a result, delegates will exchange ideas, form partnerships, and discuss strategies for resilient and self-reliant urban development.

Ultimately, the South Korea Goyang summit demonstrates the city’s commitment to leadership, international cooperation, and sustainable municipal growth. It also highlights the importance of collaboration and innovation in local governance of Korea .
