Kia launched the EV5 in South Korea to strengthen its electric vehicle lineup in the compact SUV segment. The new model aims to attract families who need comfort and drivers who enjoy flexible and adventurous rides.
The EV5’s design blends classic SUV proportions with modern electrification elements. Its flat hood contrasts with a sharply rising windshield, creating a bold look. This design recalls traditional combustion SUVs and appeals to those who value angular, powerful styling.
The vehicle measures 4,610 millimeters in length and 1,875 millimeters in width. Although classified as a compact SUV, its electric platform allows more room than other Kia compacts. The interior space almost reaches Kia’s mid-sized SUVs, offering plenty of legroom. Its trunk holds up to 965 liters, enough for family trips or outdoor equipment.
Inside, South Korea Kia EV5 SUV provides advanced technology and comfort. A panoramic cockpit display works with a head-up display, giving drivers detailed road and traffic information. The system shows Korea’s unique road markings and traffic camera alerts, as well as nearby vehicle movements.
Additionally, the lane-centering assist ensures stable driving even on curvy roads. Adaptive cruise control adjusts speed to match road conditions and posted limits. A sensor behind the steering wheel tracks driver attention and alerts when distraction occurs. These features position the EV5 as a leader in safety among mid-range electric SUVs.
On highways, the EV5 achieved higher efficiency than expected. It recorded around 6.0 kilometers per kilowatt-hour, above its official rating of 5.0. The SUV runs on an 81 kWh battery made by CATL, providing a range of up to 460 kilometers per charge.
Despite its large battery placement under the cabin, headroom remains generous. A wide sunroof increases the sense of openness, while cabin insulation reduces road noise. However, the suspension system could improve, since vibrations became noticeable during high-speed driving. Body roll also appeared during sharp highway ramps, although steering stayed responsive and light.
In South Korea, Kia priced the EV5 Air trim at about 48.55 million won. Higher trims such as Earth and GT-Line cost slightly more, yet government EV subsidies lower the effective price into the low 40-million-won range.
