South Korea Promotes Hangeul with U.S. Tech Art Exhibition

Date:

South Korea is showcasing its writing system in the US through a unique traveling art exhibition. Samsung Electronics collaborated with Korean artist Kang Ik-joong and the Korean Cultural Center New York to launch the Hangeul Truck. The exhibition merges cutting-edge technology with contemporary art to highlight Hangeul’s creativity and universal appeal. Moreover, the installation toured six major US universities, including Yale, Cornell, and Princeton, before concluding at Times Square in New York City.

The Hangeul Truck features Kang’s signature “Hangeul cubes,” each composed of individual Korean letters. Visitors can type messages in English on a Galaxy Z Fold 7 smartphone. Then, Galaxy AI instantly translates the messages into Korean and displays them on a large digital screen. In addition, a Galaxy Z Flip 7 selfie booth and other K-culture experiences accompany the exhibition. Clearly, this project emphasizes how South Korea promotes Hangeul globally.

Choi Seung-eun, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Mobile Marketing Center, said the project connects Hangeul with Galaxy technology. She explained that both are open systems, connecting people worldwide while highlighting Korean letters’ beauty. Furthermore, the exhibition demonstrates how technology and culture can merge to create interactive experiences. As a result, visitors leave with a deeper appreciation of Hangeul and South Korea’s cultural impact.

Kang Ik-joong, a New York–based artist, described the Hangeul Truck as a “living language of dreams.” He noted that the project bridges generations through open art and technology. In addition, Kang’s awards, including the Venice Biennale Special Merit and Sejong Culture Award, recognize his contributions to Korean culture. Through this exhibition, South Korea promotes Hangeul as a vibrant and accessible writing system for all.

The traveling installation received enthusiastic responses from students and visitors. Many engaged with the digital translation and expressed amazement at seeing Hangeul in real time. Moreover, the exhibition combined education, art, and technology, creating a memorable experience. The initiative shows how innovative projects can introduce South Korea’s language and culture to new global audiences. Consequently, the Hangeul Truck strengthens cultural ties and inspires creativity abroad.

Overall, South Korea promotes Hangeul globally by merging technology with art. The exhibition highlights the flexibility and beauty of Korean letters. Interactive experiences and AI translation ensure visitors connect personally with the language. Through such projects, South Korea strengthens its cultural influence internationally. Clearly, technology, creativity, and Hangeul unite to create an unforgettable experience for participants.
