Three South Korean hospitals ranked among the world’s top 10 cancer hospitals, highlighting the nation’s medical excellence. Samsung Medical Center, Asan Medical Center, and Seoul National University Hospital all achieved global recognition. Seoul National University Hospital placed second worldwide in urology, Samsung Medical Center ranked third in oncology, and Asan Medical Center earned top-10 positions in six specialties.
The ranking, covering 12 medical specialties, is based on surveys of healthcare professionals in over 30 countries. Hospitals performed especially well in oncology, demonstrating advanced treatment capabilities. Samsung Medical Center followed the US’ Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center, securing third place in oncology. Meanwhile, Asan Medical Center ranked fourth, and Seoul National University Hospital came eighth.
Overall, the list included four US hospitals, three from South Korea, and one each from France, the UK, and Canada. This outcome emphasizes South Korean hospitals’ rise as global leaders, rather than the success of individual institutions alone. Samsung Medical Center, which opened Asia’s largest cancer-dedicated facility, has pioneered treatments such as CAR-T cell therapy and precision oncology, boosting the nation’s reputation.
Beyond oncology, South Korean hospitals achieved high rankings across multiple specialties. Asan Medical Center placed in the global top 10 in six fields, ranking fourth in endocrinology and gastroenterology, sixth in both neurology and urology, and eighth in orthopedics. Seoul National University Hospital ranked second in urology and fifth in endocrinology, while Severance Hospital earned ninth place in orthopedics.
Survey participation varied by specialty, with between 125 and 300 hospitals assessed. In oncology, where South Korean hospitals excelled, 300 institutions were evaluated, highlighting their strong international performance. Analysts noted that continuous investment in medical technology and training has contributed to South Korean hospitals’ growing global influence.
