LG Innotek secured a $200 million loan from the International Finance Corporation to expand its Vietnam operations. The company will use the funds to grow its Haiphong manufacturing base and strengthen its global competitiveness.
The eight-year sustainability-linked loan includes incentives for companies that improve environmental, social, and governance practices. IFC designed the program to encourage sustainable growth and lower financing costs for firms that meet ESG targets.
LG Innotek highlighted the deal as a milestone in its sustainability journey. The company emphasized that this is the first time a South Korean manufacturer received such financing from IFC. With this agreement, both sides aim to build a stronger partnership for sustainability and innovation.
Carsten Mueller, IFC’s regional director for Asia, expressed strong support. He noted that IFC will continue to work closely with LG Innotek to promote responsible industry practices. His remarks underlined IFC’s goal of linking financial growth with sustainable business models.
Park Ji-hwan, LG Innotek’s chief financial officer, also stressed the importance of this agreement. He said the Vietnam loan reflects the company’s dedication to long-term ESG efforts. He added that LG Innotek aims to deliver unique value to customers while taking leadership in sustainability.
Moreover, LG Innotek has already taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint. The company joined the global RE100 initiative, committing to shift all electricity use to renewable sources by 2030. This target forms part of its wider plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
The firm has made strong progress toward these goals. It already converted a large share of its global electricity use to renewable energy. The shift amounted to hundreds of gigawatt hours across facilities worldwide. In fact, its plants in Vietnam and South Korea have already reached the RE100 target.
The Vietnam loan will provide both financial strength and environmental momentum. It allows LG Innotek to expand production capacity while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. At the same time, the company builds a foundation for future growth in global electronics markets.
Therefore, LG Innotek sees the loan as more than financial support. It considers the partnership with IFC a signal that responsible growth and profitability can move together. This vision strengthens the company’s role as a global leader in sustainable technology.
