Summer Travel Rush in China to Hit 953 Million Railway Trips

Date:

China is preparing for a major summer travel rush, expected to see 953 million railway passenger trips this year. The annual rush starts on July 1 and continues until August 31, spanning 62 days of intense travel activity. The China State Railway Group announced the projection on Monday. This year’s number marks a 5.8 percent increase from the 2024 season. Officials anticipate daily passenger volumes will average around 15.37 million during this time.

Typically, the summer travel rush sees college students heading home and families taking vacations. Consequently, demand for train travel spikes across the country. To handle the rising numbers, railway authorities will boost daily train services. They plan to operate more than 11,500 passenger trains each day. This adjustment aims to meet the heavy demand and improve travel efficiency.

Additionally, the railway network will prioritize high-traffic routes. Operators will add more high-speed and long-distance trains on key corridors. This strategy helps distribute passenger flow more effectively. Travel hubs across the country are preparing for the influx. Stations will increase staffing and streamline check-in procedures. These steps should reduce waiting times and enhance the passenger experience.

Officials urge travelers to book tickets early through official apps and websites. They also encourage passengers to follow safety guidelines at all times for a safe journey. Besides regular train services, the network will monitor real-time passenger data closely. Based on this information, it will adjust schedules promptly and add temporary services when needed to handle demand.

The summer travel rush plays a critical role in China’s transport calendar. It supports the mobility of millions and reflects the strength of the national railway system. Looking ahead, the railway operator remains committed to smooth and safe travel. Through improved planning and better coordination, China aims to make the 2025 summer travel rush efficient and reliable for everyone.
