Extended Countdown Shines Over Taipei 101

Date:

Extended countdown celebrations will transform Taipei 101 into one of Asia’s most anticipated New Year attractions. The city landmark announced new programming designed to expand festivities and boost cultural tourism. As a result, the extended countdown will begin on December 27 and continue nightly until the main event.

Organizers explained that the extended countdown includes themed projection shows inspired by well-known Disney characters. Additionally, the nightly program aims to draw families, younger spectators, and returning holiday travelers. Taipei 101 Chairperson Janet Chia said the enhancements reflect the tower’s growing role as both a cultural symbol and entertainment venue.

This year’s fireworks show will last six minutes and feature imported low-smoke pyrotechnics from Italy. Furthermore, organizers said they maintained the same duration and budget as last year to ensure consistency. Even so, they emphasized that creative elements, music, and visual design have evolved significantly.

For the first time, Taipei 101 partnered with Taipei Music Center to build the soundtrack. Award-winning producer Lu Luming led the process and highlighted Taiwanese musicians under age thirty. Through training sessions, recording work, and post-production reviews, the team aimed to elevate emerging talent. Consequently, young creators now have a global platform as part of the extended countdown.

Officials also shared logistical guidance and encouraged viewers to gather in northern and eastern parts of Taipei for the best sightlines. Moreover, transportation teams expect heavy foot traffic and will adjust street access and public transit schedules.

Ahead of the midnight finale, a separate projection titled Taiwan’s Invisible Heroes will run for three minutes. This tribute will recognize frontline workers who keep daily life functioning, yet rarely receive public praise.

Looking forward, Taipei 101 leaders believe the updated format will influence how large-scale celebrations evolve across the region. With the extended countdown concept now established, planners expect future events to grow in scale, creativity, and international reach.
