Taipei Dome All-Star Weekend Draws 80,000

Date:

The Taipei Dome All-Star Weekend attracted an impressive crowd of 80,000 fans over two days. Taiwan’s professional baseball league hosted the event, with 40,000 people attending the second game alone. This turnout set new records for both attendance and box office revenue. During the final game, fans witnessed a thrilling pitching duel. The match remained scoreless through regulation, increasing the tension in the stadium. To break the deadlock, the league introduced a home run swing-off. This exciting format resembles the one used recently in Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.

Each team selected a hitter who received three pitches. If the score stayed tied, the contest moved into additional rounds with different hitters. Ultimately, Chu Yu-Hsien clinched the victory for Team Taiwan in the second round. He edged out the CPBL All-Stars 2-1, thrilling the crowd. The game also served as a farewell for Lin Chih-Sheng, a celebrated star of the Wei Chuan Dragons. Lin stepped in as shortstop, returning to the position after ten years. Although he did not record a hit in two games, fans gave him a standing ovation as he left in the eighth inning.

Lin shared his emotions, saying, “After the last ball, my feet almost gave out, so I asked the coach to replace me.” He added, “It’s an honor to play shortstop for Team Taiwan.” With 22 All-Star Game appearances, Lin holds the record for the most in Taiwan’s professional baseball history. Moreover, the Taipei Dome All-Star Weekend featured more than just baseball. Six cheerleading teams performed a lively opening dance together.

Adding to the excitement, Minnie from South Korea’s girl group (G)I-DLE threw out the first pitch.Fans enjoyed a weekend full of unforgettable moments, capped by the fierce competition and heartfelt farewells. The Taipei Dome All-Star Weekend proved to be a spectacular celebration of baseball and entertainment in Taiwan.
