Golden Bell Lightshow: Taipei Streets Closed for Spectacular Event

Date:

Taipei will host the Golden Bell Lightshow, closing key streets to vehicle traffic to accommodate the event. The show celebrates six decades of the Golden Bell Awards, Taiwan’s equivalent of the Emmy Awards. The Golden Bell Lightshow is set to run from tomorrow through Friday, drawing attention to audiovisual artistry in the city center.

Authorities announced that Ketagalan Boulevard between Chongqing S Road and Gongyuan Road will close to vehicles from 6pm to 8pm tomorrow. Access to Huaining Street from Baoqing Road to Guiyang Road will also be restricted during the same hours, according to Taipei police.

In addition, Chongqing S Road between Baoqing Road and Guiyang Street will close in both directions from 6:10pm to 7:30pm. Southbound traffic on Hengyang Street and other segments of Chongqing S Road will face restrictions to ensure smooth traffic management.

Preparations for the Golden Bell Lightshow have already prompted partial closures on Ketagalan Boulevard and Huaining Street since September 26. Authorities confirmed these areas will remain closed until Saturday at 6pm. Police emphasized that commuters should check bus timetables and routes due to the traffic restrictions.

The Golden Bell Lightshow will feature more than 80 audiovisual works projected onto buildings along Ketagalan Boulevard. The projections evoke memories from six decades of Golden Bell Awards ceremonies. Each performance lasts about 10 minutes and occurs every 30 minutes from 7pm to 9:30pm. However, the first show tomorrow will start at 7:30pm to accommodate a lighting ceremony.

City officials highlighted the event’s cultural and social significance. The Golden Bell Lightshow allows both residents and visitors to engage with Taiwan’s television and entertainment history in a public, immersive format. Event organizers noted that the show combines technology, art, and heritage, enhancing Taipei’s urban cultural offerings.

Experts in urban event management praised the coordination between Taipei police, traffic authorities, and event organizers. They stressed that early communication and precise traffic control are essential to ensure both public safety and smooth attendance for cultural events.

Looking ahead, the city plans to use lessons from the Golden Bell Lightshow to improve future public art displays. Officials aim to balance cultural celebration with traffic management, enhancing Taipei’s reputation as a hub for large-scale urban events.
