Wanda-Zhonghe Line Nears Completion with 2027 Opening Target

Date:

The Wanda-Zhonghe Line project in Taipei has reached 81.7 percent completion, signaling major progress toward its scheduled 2027 launch. Moreover, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi announced the milestone during a recent site inspection, emphasizing the line’s importance in enhancing regional transportation and commuter convenience.

Furthermore, the Wanda-Zhonghe Line will stretch 9.5 kilometers, linking Taipei’s Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station to Chukuang Station in New Taipei City’s Jhonghe District. The line will feature nine underground stations and one depot, thereby improving accessibility between central Taipei and suburban districts.

In terms of construction progress, teams have finished all 18 tunnels and nearly completed the main structures for stations and the depot. Meanwhile, workers now focus on interior finishing, electrical and water system installation, environmental control systems, and track placement. Officials plan to open surrounding roads by next year to ensure smooth traffic flow before the line’s launch.

Additionally, the Jincheng depot plays a critical role in the project. Located at the intersection of Banciao, Jhonghe, and Tucheng districts, this five-level facility handles storage, maintenance, testing, and dispatch. The second basement level accommodates up to 36 trains, covering both the Wanda-Zhonghe Line and the Tucheng-Shulin Line. At the same time, the first basement level doubles as a commercial parking area, integrating transport infrastructure with urban development.

Transit officials have already begun operational testing. The first train from Brazil arrived last October and completed static testing at the depot. Subsequently, signal tests started in August, followed by communication system checks between the control center and trains. In addition, six additional trains will arrive by year’s end, boosting fleet capacity and testing capabilities.

The depot design also supports efficient transfers. Chukuang Station will sit about 120 meters from the Taishan-Banciao light rail F28 station, enabling one-minute transfers. This strategic connection will therefore streamline commutes and reduce travel times significantly. For example, a trip from Zhonghe Senior High School Station to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station will take just 14 minutes.

City officials highlight the line’s broader impact as well. The project enhances public transit connectivity, supports sustainable urban growth, and eases congestion in high-traffic corridors. Moreover, authorities plan to maintain the construction pace to ensure timely completion and seamless integration with Taipei’s expanding metro network.

Ultimately, with strong leadership, advanced construction progress, and strategic planning, the Wanda-Zhonghe Line is on track to reshape daily commuting in the Taipei metropolitan area.
