Taiwan High Speed Rail Adds 30 Trains for Mother’s Day Holiday Travel Boost

Date:

Holiday travel boost will help passengers reach their families for Mother’s Day weekend. Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp announced it would add 30 trains from May 8 to 11. The additional services include 15 northbound and 15 southbound trains. Tickets go on sale at midnight tomorrow. Early-bird discounts will apply to all trains departing before 8am on May 9. This holiday travel boost aims to accommodate increased passenger demand during the holiday period.

THSR will also offer eight additional services with half-price student tickets. The company wants to encourage college students to return home for the holiday. Non-reserved seating will expand during peak periods as well. Normally, car number 10 provides non-reserved seating for passengers. During peak times, cars 9 through 12 will offer non-reserved seating instead.

The peak periods cover specific time windows on multiple days. These include 3pm to 9pm on May 8 in both directions. Passengers should also expect crowding from 4pm to 9pm on May 10. Southbound services on May 11 from 5pm to 7pm will see heavy demand. Northbound services on May 10 from 2pm to 10pm complete the peak periods. During these times, all regularly scheduled and added services between Nangang and Taichung will stop at every station. Nine cars will allocate space for non-reserved seating.

THSR advised travelers to check the Ticket Availability section before traveling. Passengers should plan their trips during peak periods well in advance. Arranging connecting transportation ahead of time will help avoid delays. Early-bird ticket holders must carry valid identification matching their ticket. Those unable to present proper ID will face penalties. The company will treat such passengers as traveling without a valid ticket. A 50 percent surcharge will apply for the distance traveled. This holiday travel boost comes with clear rules for all passengers.

Students using half-price tickets must present valid student identification. If the ID does not indicate current enrollment, an additional certificate of enrollment is required. THSR wants to ensure that only eligible students receive the discount. The company has implemented these measures to prevent fraud. Similar rules applied during previous holiday travel periods.

Industry analysts note that Mother’s Day generates significant travel demand in Taiwan. Many families gather to celebrate with meals and gift exchanges. The high speed rail system offers the fastest connection between northern and southern cities. Without additional trains, passengers would face severe crowding and long waits. THSR’s proactive approach helps manage demand effectively. This holiday travel boost sets a positive example for future holiday planning. Other transportation providers may follow with their own service increases. Passengers should book early to secure their preferred departure times.
