The Taiwan National Symphony Youth Orchestra summer tour is ready to captivate audiences once again. This year, the orchestra embarks on its fifth annual journey, performing across Taiwan and Japan. Named “Dreams Unleashed,” the tour highlights the remarkable talents of young musicians worldwide.
Founded in 2023 by Jun Markl, Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra annually gathers nearly 100 gifted musicians. These young artists come from Taiwan, Germany, Japan, Thailand, the United States, Spain, the Netherlands, and Singapore. Moreover, the program offers them exceptional training and international performing opportunities.
After last year’s debut international tour in Singapore and Thailand, the Taiwan National Symphony Youth Orchestra summer tour will feature five concerts this season. First, audiences in Taiwan will enjoy three performances at Miaobei Arts Center in Miaoli, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and the Kaohsiung Center for the Arts.
Then, the orchestra travels to Japan for concerts in Yokohama and Tokyo. A special highlight of the tour is a collaboration with members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, one of Germany’s top youth orchestras. This partnership promises to add fresh energy and broaden the orchestra’s sound.
Under Jun Markl’s direction, the orchestra will present a vibrant program. The centerpiece is Sergei Prokofiev’s “Piano Concerto No. 3,” featuring Russian pianist Dmitry Shishkin. Additionally, the program includes Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet Suites Nos. 1 and 2,” which combine flowing melodies with rhythmic energy. Furthermore, audiences will hear Richard Strauss’s “Don Juan,” a vivid tone poem portraying the legendary hero’s daring adventures.
Kuo Wen-chen, Executive Director of the National Symphony Orchestra, highlighted the ensemble’s growth. He noted that the Taiwan National Symphony Youth Orchestra summer tour focuses on developing musicians with a global outlook. Importantly, the tour begins in Miaoli to honor the orchestra’s origins.
In summary, the Taiwan National Symphony Youth Orchestra summer tour promises an inspiring blend of youthful passion and musical excellence. Consequently, audiences in Taiwan and Japan will witness the bright future of classical music.
