Taiwan’s LNG supply will remain stable through next month after officials secured most shipments required to maintain national inventories. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin shared the update today while speaking with reporters about the island’s energy situation. He explained that Taiwan has already arranged nearly all deliveries required to support the current natural gas demand. Consequently, authorities expect the LNG supply to remain stable during March and April despite ongoing global energy uncertainty.
Kung explained that Taiwan requires twenty-two liquefied natural gas shipments to meet demand across the two months. Authorities have already secured twenty shipments, while negotiations continue for the remaining two deliveries. However, officials expect suppliers to confirm those shipments soon and finalize the full delivery schedule. Therefore, Kung dismissed speculation suggesting that Taiwan could experience a shortage of natural gas. He emphasized that such rumors do not reflect the country’s current supply planning.
Taiwan maintains a diversified procurement strategy that helps protect the stability of its LNG supply. About one-third of Taiwan’s natural gas imports currently come from Qatar, one of the world’s largest exporters. Meanwhile, suppliers from other regions provide the remaining sixty to seventy percent of imports. This distribution reduces reliance on a single supplier and strengthens energy security during uncertain global conditions. As a result, officials believe Taiwan maintains a balanced and resilient natural gas procurement structure.
Kung also addressed concerns regarding residential consumption after some residents worried about possible household shortages. Some people expressed concern that gas might not remain available for daily needs such as hot showers. However, Kung explained that household consumption accounts for less than five percent of total natural gas usage. Industrial production and electricity generation consume most of the island’s natural gas supply. Therefore, residential users should not experience disruptions in everyday gas access.
Global energy markets remain sensitive because geopolitical tensions continue affecting international fuel trade and shipping routes. In particular, conflict in the Middle East has contributed to uncertainty in global natural gas pricing. Consequently, governments and energy companies around the world continue monitoring supply conditions closely. Kung noted that Taiwan could face higher costs if officials purchase additional cargoes through the spot market. However, long-term contracts and adjusted delivery schedules could help keep prices closer to contract levels.
Looking ahead, Taiwan’s government plans to monitor global supply and demand trends carefully in the coming months. Officials expect global demand for natural gas to decline slightly as seasonal consumption decreases. That trend could improve cargo availability and stabilize international LNG prices later this year. In addition, authorities will continue coordinating with suppliers to ensure a reliable LNG supply throughout the year.
