Taiwan High Speed Rail is preparing for the Dragon Boat Festival travel rush with extra train services and more seating options. As demand increases every year, THSRC continues to respond with better scheduling and more capacity.
Between May 28 and June 2, travelers will benefit from four additional train services. Three of these will run southbound, while one will travel northbound. As a result, passengers will see shorter wait times and more options.
Bookings for these extra trains open at midnight on May 17. Therefore, passengers should plan ahead and book early. This gives them the best chance of securing seats during the peak period.
In fact, THSRC had already added 127 train services in late April. That earlier move came in response to strong booking activity. With the latest update, a total of 1,066 services will run during the Dragon Boat Festival travel rush.
Moreover, eleven late-night trains will operate past midnight. These will help those traveling long distances or returning home late. The last of these will arrive around 1 a.m.
Importantly, each late-night train will include two non-reserved cars. These will be located in cars 11 and 12. This allows more flexibility for riders without seat reservations.
To further meet rising demand, THSRC will increase non-reserved seating in key regions. In particular, trains leaving from Nangang and Taichung will carry more non-reserved cars during peak hours.
On May 29, southbound trains will depart Nangang at 25 minutes past the hour. This will occur from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Therefore, commuters can rely on consistent departure times.
On June 1, northbound trains will leave Taichung every hour. Departures will happen at 4 minutes past the hour, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition, one extra train will leave Taichung at 9:51 p.m. that night.
Each of these peak-period trains between Nangang and Taichung will offer eight non-reserved seating cars. Specifically, cars 1 to 3 and 8 to 12 will be available.
Furthermore, these expanded trains will stop at all stations along their route. This ensures broader access across the entire high-speed rail network.
In conclusion, THSRC’s expanded schedule and added seating options are set to improve travel during the Dragon Boat Festival travel rush. With careful planning and early booking, travelers can enjoy a smoother holiday journey.
