Traditional Chinese Medicine Strengthens Taiwan’s Health Strategy

Date:

Traditional Chinese Medicine plays an essential role in Taiwan’s healthcare system. Recently, President Lai Ching-te highlighted this during a major international event marking 50 years of Oriental medicine. He congratulated the organizers and praised the important contributions Traditional Chinese Medicine has made to improving citizens’ health.

Importantly, Traditional Chinese Medicine is now a central part of Taiwan’s “Healthy Taiwan” initiative. The program enables practitioners to actively participate in managing chronic diseases and providing long-term care. Consequently, the healthcare system becomes more integrated and comprehensive. President Lai also pointed out the many challenges Taiwan faces today, such as an aging population and the post-pandemic recovery process. He expressed hope that Traditional Chinese Medicine will continue playing a vital role in community healthcare and government-supported long-term care systems.

In addition to these efforts, the government has invested substantial resources into promoting this traditional approach. It has enacted supportive policies, including the Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy Development Act, designed to strengthen the sector. The government also emphasizes the importance of practitioner education and training, as well as hospital and clinic evaluations to ensure quality care. Moreover, Taiwan’s national health insurance system covers related services. This coverage allows citizens to access affordable, convenient, and high-quality care.

Furthermore, Traditional Chinese Medicine has become deeply embedded in the daily lives of many Taiwanese people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it proved particularly valuable. Taiwan developed the herbal formula Chingguan Yihau, which helped many patients recover from the virus. This formula’s success is notable, as it is now used in more than 60 countries around the world. President Lai shared that he personally witnessed the formula’s effectiveness during the health crisis. This achievement highlights the progress and innovation of traditional healthcare in Taiwan.

Lastly, President Lai expressed his hope for greater cooperation between these traditional methods and Western medicine. He believes such collaboration could offer more contributions to global health. Additionally, it would encourage increased international exchange and cooperation. This integrated approach could improve healthcare outcomes for people worldwide.
