The World Cosplay Summit 2025 delivered a vibrant spectacle of anime, gaming, and pop culture in Nagoya, Japan. From August 1st to 3rd, fans and cosplayers gathered for one of the world’s largest cosplay festivals. Held across Oasis 21, Hisaya-odori Park, the Aichi Arts Center, and nearby areas, the event celebrated its 23rd anniversary in style.
This year’s World Cosplay Summit welcomed an impressive 247,200 visitors. Attendees came from across Japan and many countries abroad. Consequently, the atmosphere pulsed with energy throughout the three-day celebration.
On Sunday, the popular Osu Cosplay Parade took center stage. Around 1,000 cosplayers marched through Osu Shopping Arcade in colorful costumes. Meanwhile, spectators lined the arcade, applauding and taking photos of the creative outfits. Furthermore, five DJ trucks blasted music, turning the parade into a mobile party.
The event aims to promote international exchange through Japanese pop culture. Since 2003, in fact, it has served as a global hub for anime, manga, and video game enthusiasts. Every year, fans unite in Aichi Prefecture to celebrate their shared interests.
The opening ceremony at Oasis 21 set the tone. Cosplayers from 41 countries and regions walked the red carpet. Meanwhile, students from Nagoya University of Arts performed live music during the event. Additionally, local leaders, including the governor and mayor, joined in cosplay, boosting the festive spirit. As a result, the slogan “Cosplay Everywhere!” echoed through the venue.
As the weekend progressed, attendees enjoyed exhibitions, stage shows, and meetups. Moreover, the World Cosplay Championship, the event’s highlight, concluded on Sunday evening. Representatives from around the world displayed exceptional costumes and dynamic performances.
The United States claimed first place with their act from Fire Emblem Engage. The team, We Need Disguises, portrayed characters Hortensia and Art Crist. Meanwhile, France secured second place with a Witch Hat Atelier performance. Brazil placed third, presenting characters from Resident Evil Village.
Afterward, the winners shared emotional messages of gratitude. They expressed deep appreciation for the community and joy in realizing their dream.
