Sustainable Future: Xi Calls for Innovation and Green Growth at APEC Summit

Date:

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Asia-Pacific economies to work together for a sustainable future. He made the call during the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, on Saturday. Xi stressed that nations must boost innovation, pursue green growth, and expand inclusive cooperation. His message centered on building a sustainable future through shared responsibility and innovation-driven development.

Xi said the world faces both opportunities and challenges. Emerging technologies are reshaping industries, yet global inequality and environmental issues are worsening. He emphasized that Asia-Pacific economies must harness digital transformation and green innovation to strengthen long-term growth.

To secure a sustainable future, Xi presented a three-part plan. His first focus was innovation. He called for greater use of digital and smart technologies to drive new productivity. He encouraged countries to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, open-source development, and secure data sharing. Xi also proposed creating a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to close the digital divide.

His second focus was green transition. Xi said Asia-Pacific economies should align their climate goals and promote the free flow of clean technologies. He explained that China has already built the world’s largest renewable energy network. The country also submitted its 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions to strengthen climate action.

The third focus was inclusivity. Xi urged APEC members to prioritize people’s welfare and reduce poverty. He called for better cooperation in digital literacy, women’s education, and AI-powered health care. He said these actions would help all nations benefit from the region’s progress.

Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He noted that APEC remains vital for promoting balanced and fair economic growth.

As the summit concluded, Xi’s speech highlighted collective innovation and environmental responsibility. He said that through unity and technology, the Asia-Pacific can create a truly sustainable future.
