North Korea Obtains Covert Surveillance Eyewear from China

Date:

A significant shipment of high-tech spy camera glasses has been procured by North Korean traders, raising questions about the country’s surveillance capabilities and intelligence gathering methods.

The sophisticated eyewear, featuring hidden cameras cunningly concealed within the temples of horn-rimmed glasses, allows for discreet photo and video recording without drawing attention. Each pair of glasses was acquired for approximately 800 Chinese yuan (roughly $110 USD), a price significantly lower than market rates in other parts of China.

The glasses were purchased in Guangzhou’s wholesale electronics district in early March and subsequently transported through a carefully planned logistics route. After initial shipping to Jilin province, the devices were then moved across the border from Changbai to Hyesan in North Korea’s Ryanggang province.

Experts suggest these advanced surveillance tools are likely intended for use by the country’s state security apparatus, potentially enhancing their covert intelligence gathering capabilities.

The acquisition highlights North Korea’s continued investment in innovative surveillance technologies, demonstrating the regime’s ongoing efforts to modernize its intelligence collection methods.
