Samyang Faces Viral Buldak Noodle Lawsuit Claim Threatening Brand Value

Date:

A Canadian influencer ignited a storm by claiming she won $10.8 million in damages from Samyang Foods after eating Buldak noodles. She alleged that the company’s flagship spicy noodles caused her to develop a stomach ulcer requiring hospitalization. The influencer further insisted that a court had awarded her compensation and ordered Buldak products off shelves in North America.

However, Samyang Foods immediately denied every part of the story. The company stressed that no lawsuit or trial had been filed against it in either the United States or Canada. Moreover, executives stated that the claim of damages had no basis in fact. They also warned that the spread of this misinformation could damage their global reputation.

The influencer, identified as Javeria Wasim, posted several videos outlining her supposed case. She told her followers that she had sued Samyang for 15 million Canadian dollars in damages. Furthermore, she announced that she had won the lawsuit and secured a settlement. In another video, she claimed that North American stores would pull Buldak noodles from shelves by September.

Samyang Foods rejected those claims outright and said the Buldak noodle lawsuit never occurred. According to the company, the influencer fabricated the story for attention and profit. Executives emphasized that no legal action had taken place and no court had issued any decision. In addition, they expressed concern about the damage caused by misinformation spreading across major media platforms.

As videos continued to circulate online, Samyang Foods decided to respond publicly. Company representatives explained that they had initially ignored the influencer’s statements because they appeared too outrageous to address. However, as the allegations gained traction, they concluded that silence would only increase the damage. They now plan to explore legal action against the influencer for spreading false information.

The controversy underscores the power of viral content in shaping consumer perception. Although the Buldak noodle lawsuit was entirely fabricated, it quickly gained global attention. Consequently, Samyang Foods must now manage both reputational risk and potential legal responses to misinformation. The company reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of its brand and maintaining consumer trust.
