Psy Faces Political Fallout as Illegal Prescriptions Probe Widens

Date:

Authorities launched an investigation into singer Psy after allegations of illegal prescriptions. Police claim Psy received drugs without proper hospital visits. Officials said third parties collected the medication for him, including his manager. The investigation quickly drew public attention because of the singer’s global fame.

Investigators revealed that Psy obtained Xanax and Stilnox, which treat anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. Police argue he avoided in-person consultations required under the law. Instead, his manager and others reportedly collected the medication on his behalf. The police continue to analyze how often this practice occurred.

The probe began after authorities received a detailed tip-off from an undisclosed source. Police raided a university hospital and secured Psy’s medical records. They explained that the Medical Service Act requires direct consultations before issuing any prescriptions. The law also prohibits drug collection by anyone except the patient.

Both Xanax and Stilnox carry high risks of dependency, which makes in-person medical oversight essential. Authorities stressed that these drugs demand careful monitoring to prevent misuse. Investigators believe Psy ignored this requirement during several prescription periods. The doctor involved denied wrongdoing, claiming he conducted remote consultations before providing treatment.

Meanwhile, Psy’s agency P Nation admitted mistakes regarding drug collection. The company confirmed third parties picked up the prescriptions at times. However, it denied arranging any proxy consultations with doctors. P Nation emphasized that Psy suffers from a chronic sleep disorder and requires ongoing treatment.

The agency also clarified that although collection mistakes occurred, Psy never intended to bypass medical supervision. Executives acknowledged fault and called the issue a clear oversight. They stressed that his treatment always followed medical advice. The statement aimed to reassure fans and calm public criticism.

As the investigation deepens, police prepare to summon Psy for formal questioning. Officials said they will review the seized hospital records before taking further steps. They want to determine whether laws were broken deliberately or through negligence. The results may influence public opinion and future enforcement of prescription rules.

This case highlights how illegal prescriptions can raise major concerns about medical ethics and celebrity privilege. South Korean authorities enforce strict rules on psychotropic drugs to prevent dependency. The investigation into Psy demonstrates the seriousness of violating medical laws. Public discussions now center on both accountability and fair treatment under the law.
