Key Events in Ulaanbaatar This Week: Shaping Mongolia’s September Start

As September begins, key events in Ulaanbaatar set a busy pace for Mongolia this week. Firstly, on September 1, schools nationwide, including universities and preschools, started their new academic year. Moreover, the nation celebrated Mother Language Day, highlighting Mongolia’s rich linguistic heritage.

To mark the day, the National Library of Mongolia held a lecture titled “Why We Value Our Mother Tongue.” This event occurred at the new building of the Mongolian National University. Additionally, it honored Bazarragchaa Munkhjargal, an esteemed linguist, on his 80th anniversary.

Meanwhile, innovation took a big step forward. Specifically, the Smart Education Hub Center opened at the Mongolian State University of Education. It aims to promote AI education and digital learning programs nationwide.

From September 2 to 5, Ulaanbaatar hosted the Asia-Pacific Cyber Drill 2025. Consequently, this event drew attention to regional cybersecurity efforts. Furthermore, on September 3, the Government of Mongolia held its regular session to discuss national priorities.

In foreign affairs, the Governor-General of Australia, Samantha Mostyn, visited Mongolia from September 4 to 9. Her state visit notably strengthens diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Cultural and scientific events also stood out. For instance, on September 5, an international conference celebrated Professor Udo Barkmann’s 70th anniversary. He is a renowned Mongolist from Germany. On the same day, Mongolians observed New Harvest Day and joined the global celebration of International Day of Clean Air.

The week’s celebrations continued on September 7 with Mongolian Builders’ Day. This holiday honors the nation’s construction workers. Meanwhile, the 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup basketball tournament ran from August 31 to September 7 in Ulaanbaatar.

Looking ahead, the “Mining Week & Mine Pro 2025” exhibition will take place from September 11 to 13. It focuses on Mongolia’s mining industry. Outside the capital, the “Sersen Tal” Song and Music Festival honored composer Sharav Byambasuren. This event ran from September 5 to 7 in Khentii aimag.

Abroad, the Mongolia-Kazakhstan business meeting occurred in Astana and Almaty from September 4 to 7. Simultaneously, the World Boxing Championships took place in Liverpool. Mongolia sent ten athletes to compete between September 4 and 14. Overall, key events in Ulaanbaatar and beyond are shaping a vibrant start to September in Mongolia.
