China-Portugal Ties Strengthen With Beijing Meeting

Date:

China-Portugal ties received a fresh boost as President Xi Jinping met Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in Beijing on Tuesday. The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People and highlighted both nations’ desire to deepen cooperation.

During the talks, Xi emphasized that the two countries have seen strong progress in many areas in recent years. He noted that their collaboration has delivered practical results and created a model of mutual respect and shared benefit. Xi highlighted that this partnership works even though the two countries have different political systems and national circumstances.

Xi pointed out that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Portugal. He explained that China wants to strengthen strategic communication with Portugal and ensure relations move in the right direction. According to Xi, building on existing achievements can lead to even stronger cooperation.

He stressed that both sides should work together to improve relations and bring greater prosperity and progress. Xi argued that when solidarity guides cooperation, both nations benefit and contribute more to global development.

The Chinese leader also addressed the wider international situation. He explained that global challenges are growing more complex and unpredictable. Xi stated that in such a turbulent environment, the need for dialogue between China and Europe has become more urgent.

He called on Portugal to play a constructive role in maintaining the positive momentum of China-EU partnership. Xi underlined that China and Portugal should jointly promote stability and ensure that China-EU relations continue developing in a healthy way.

Prime Minister Montenegro, who began his term earlier this year, expressed interest in strengthening bilateral ties with China. He emphasized Portugal’s readiness to cooperate in areas such as trade, culture, and sustainable development. Both leaders agreed that China-Portugal ties have strong potential to expand in new directions.

The meeting reaffirmed that dialogue, trust, and cooperation remain central to the relationship. With the 20th anniversary marking an important milestone, both sides are now looking to shape the next chapter of China-Portugal ties.
