DPP Leadership Crisis: Ker Chien-ming to Resign

Date:

Pressure is mounting within the DPP amid a growing DPP leadership crisis. Prominent legislators are renewing calls for Ker Chien-ming to step down. Wang Shi-chien emphasized that dialogue has reached its limit, and the party must act immediately. He noted that multiple attempts to persuade Ker have failed, and the moment for decisive action has arrived. Wang expressed confidence that Ker Chien-ming would make the right choice for the party.

Wang warned that the DPP leadership crisis could worsen if the party ignores public expectations for reform. He argued that failing to address internal issues may create greater challenges in the future. Similarly, fellow legislator Chiu Yi-ying criticized Ker for frequently ignoring colleagues’ advice and relying solely on his own judgment. She highlighted Ker’s controversial decision to instruct lawmakers to forfeit votes on a key child abuse amendment, a move that left many legislators confused and frustrated.

Chiu added that while the party tolerated Ker’s approach to maintain unity in the past, growing consensus indicates a change is necessary. Many DPP supporters expressed dissatisfaction with Ker’s leadership style, signaling the urgency of addressing the DPP leadership crisis.

Not all legislators shared this critical view. Lin Tai-hua urged the party to avoid unnecessary infighting, citing the importance of self-reflection and genuine reform. Lin stressed that a renewed focus on legislative work is essential for restoring public trust and preventing further political damage.

Former lawmaker Lin Cho-shui also commented on Ker’s declining popularity. Survey results indicate that Ker’s favorability rating fell significantly after recent political events, creating a gap between him and the DPP as a whole. Lin argued that without accountability, Ker could become a political liability for the party.

As internal pressure grows, the DPP faces mounting demands for transparency and leadership change. The party must act decisively to manage the DPP leadership crisis and regain public confidence. Meanwhile, the future of Ker Chien-ming’s role within the party remains uncertain, and how the DPP navigates this period will shape its political standing in the coming months.
