China US Military Talks Highlight Stability and Cooperation

China US military relations took center stage as Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun held a video discussion with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday. The dialogue focused on the need for open communication and engagement to strengthen bilateral military ties. Experts noted that China US military relations require careful handling to prevent misunderstandings.

During the discussion, Dong Jun stressed the importance of mutual respect and equality. He emphasized that maintaining a peaceful coexistence is essential for a stable China US military relationship. Dong warned that any attempts to use military force to support Taiwan’s independence or to contain China would fail. He highlighted that respecting each other’s core interests is crucial for lasting regional stability.

Furthermore, Dong addressed the situation in the South China Sea. He stated that China is committed to safeguarding peace and stability in the region. He firmly opposed provocations or infringements by certain countries, including attempts by nations outside the region to stir tensions. Dong reaffirmed that China focuses on its development while defending its legitimate rights and interests. He concluded that efforts to contain or deter China will not succeed, nor will interference in China’s internal affairs.

Lü Xiang, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, commented that China has sent clear warnings to the United States. He noted that the country is adamant that Taiwan should not be used to contain China. Lü added that China’s firm positions on the South China Sea reflect candid communication. Despite these warnings, Lü emphasized that the video dialogue remains constructive. He believes it contributes positively to China US military relations.

Xin Qiang, director of the Taiwan Studies Center at Fudan University, explained that cooperation between China and the U.S. is essential. He highlighted that consistent dialogue and consultation are necessary to prevent crises. Xin added that strong communication channels form the foundation for avoiding military conflicts. Experts agree that such discussions improve understanding and stability in China US military relations.

Overall, the recent video talk reinforces the need for ongoing dialogue, mutual respect, and practical cooperation. Analysts stress that maintaining a stable military relationship is vital for regional peace. By focusing on communication and constructive engagement, China US military ties can navigate challenges while safeguarding regional security.
