South Korea worked with LG Energy Solution to arrange a safe return for hundreds of detained employees in the United States. The company funded a special Korean Air charter flight worth about $1 billion to transport its workers home.
LG Energy Solution apologized for the distress caused to employees, families, and partners. The firm expressed gratitude to the South Korean government and US officials for their cooperation. Company leaders also promised full follow-up support to ensure a smooth recovery for all returning workers.
Moreover, the firm arranged extra care for those with health issues. These workers will travel in first- or business-class seats. Each person will also have a dedicated LG Energy Solution representative to provide personal assistance during the journey. In addition, the company will cover accommodation and flights for foreign-national employees returning to their home countries.
South Korea confirmed that 316 of the 317 South Korean detainees agreed to board the charter flight. Fourteen additional employees also secured seats on the same flight. However, one worker decided to remain in the US. That individual plans to pursue legal action to validate their residency status through the courts.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the United States delayed the flight schedule by one day. Officials did not share details about the reason for the delay. Despite the setback, South Korea pressed forward with efforts to finalize the safe return of its citizens.
Foreign Minister Cho Hyun also met with senior US officials in Washington. They agreed that detainees would transfer to the airport without restraints. The agreement also ensured that workers would face no penalties if they reenter the US later.
LG Energy Solution emphasized its commitment to improving overseas management systems. Leaders said they would strengthen oversight to prevent future issues and minimize risks to business operations. The company highlighted its determination to respond swiftly and effectively whenever problems emerge abroad.
The collaboration between South Korea, LG Energy Solution, and US authorities underscores the importance of diplomatic coordination. It also shows how large corporations must safeguard employees when unexpected crises arise in foreign markets.
