SK Hynix NAND Powers Faster AI in Smartphones

Date:

SK hynix launched its high-performance SK hynix NAND solution, ZUFS 4.1, for smartphones to boost on-device artificial intelligence. This SK hynix NAND improves system speed, increases data efficiency, and strengthens the company’s position in the global AI memory market. Furthermore, it supports faster app launches and smoother user experiences. Analysts say this move highlights SK hynix’s leadership in AI memory technology.

ZUFS 4.1 writes data sequentially instead of overwriting existing information, which reduces read-performance degradation by over four times compared to conventional UFS. In addition, general apps launch 45 percent faster and AI apps open 47 percent faster. This improvement benefits developers and end-users while enhancing smartphone responsiveness. Consequently, it makes mobile AI applications more practical and efficient.

Kim Ju-seon, president and head of AI Infra at SK hynix, emphasized that SK hynix NAND ZUFS 4.1 optimizes Android OS and storage devices through collaborative design. He explained that demand for mobile AI will drive the technology’s expansion. Furthermore, SK hynix plans to develop additional NAND solutions to meet growing consumer and enterprise needs. The company also strengthens partnerships with global firms in the AI memory sector.

The company upgraded error-handling capabilities in ZUFS 4.1 compared to version 4.0. It now detects errors more precisely and communicates corrective actions directly to the central processing unit. These improvements enhance system reliability and recovery performance. As a result, users experience more stable AI applications and longer device lifespans.

Universal Flash Storage (UFS) powers mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. SK hynix leveraged UFS evolution to develop ZUFS 4.1 based on the ZUFS model introduced by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council. In addition, SK hynix will expand SK hynix NAND supply to meet growing global demand. These efforts also strengthen the company’s competitive edge in AI memory and mobile storage markets.

The ZUFS 4.1 launch demonstrates South Korea’s semiconductor innovation and reinforces SK hynix’s global influence. Moreover, high-performance solutions accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled devices. By investing in advanced NAND, SK hynix positions itself as a key player in mobile and AI memory markets.
