China Showcases J-20 Fighter at PLA Air Force Open-Day

Date:

The J-20 fighter will headline upcoming open-day activities of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force in Changchun. Moreover, the J-20 fighter’s first static display highlights China’s progress in advanced aviation technology and demonstrates the Air Force’s growing confidence.

The PLA Air Force will host the event from September 19 to 23 in Jilin Province. On September 16, the advanced J-20 jet reached the site, while multiple aircraft conducted training flights. In addition, officials confirmed that the team placed the advanced jet for its static display.

Alongside the J-20 fighter, the open-day will feature 125 exhibits covering 93 types of aircraft, vehicles, and equipment. In addition, organizers divided the displays into three categories: active-duty aircraft, retired models, and ground-based systems. This arrangement not only illustrates operational strength but also highlights historical development.

The PLA Air Force will also display air defense missiles, radar systems, and transport vehicles. To increase public engagement, staff will open cockpits of two aircraft and cargo bays of two others, including the Y-20A large transport plane. In this way, visitors can experience aviation up close and see the J-20 fighter in context.

Aviation enthusiasts will witness adaptive training demonstrations. For example, on September 16, a YU-20A tanker performed tactical maneuvers, while two H-6 bombers flew over the venue for the first time. Additionally, aerobatic teams, including Bayi, Red Falcon, and Sky Wing, will perform during the event, complementing the J-20 fighter’s showcase.

Military analysts said that allowing the public to examine the J-20 fighter marks a milestone. Indeed, the J-20 fighter has long symbolized cutting-edge technology and strategic strength. Therefore, this unveiling demonstrates greater transparency.

Defense officials emphasized that the open-day highlights modernization achievements and also shows the PLA Air Force’s readiness for future challenges. Moreover, the exhibition includes immersive experiences, such as flight simulators, drone operations, and parachute activities, which connect the public directly with military aviation and the J-20 fighter.

Observers noted that the Changchun event shows stronger efforts to build public trust and demonstrate openness. Furthermore, displaying both modern aircraft and legacy systems highlights continuity while showcasing advances in aviation development alongside the J-20 fighter.

Looking ahead, the PLA Air Force intends to increase public engagement through additional open-day events. As a result, the advanced J-20 jet continues to serve as a central symbol of modernization and China’s long-term commitment to aerospace innovation.
