Climate Action Leads Taiwan Mobile’s Green Initiatives

Date:

Taiwan Mobile rallies suppliers for climate action as the telecom strengthens sustainability across its operations. Additionally, the company organized a mangrove planting event with 30 supply chain partners, demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and carbon reduction.

The activity took place in Tainan’s Taijiang National Park, where participants planted 500 mangrove trees under Taiwan Mobile’s blue-carbon restoration project. Climate action guided the initiative, emphasizing the importance of coastal resilience and natural carbon absorption. Taiwan Mobile Chief Financial and Sustainability Officer Chang Chia-chi said the company aims to build long-term green platforms alongside its supply chain.

Leading technology suppliers, including Nokia Taiwan and Ericsson Taiwan, joined the planting. Moreover, Taiwan Mobile plans to expand the project significantly, targeting 3,000 mangroves across 2.7 hectares of unused fishponds within three years. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader climate action strategy.

The telecom highlighted three key areas of focus. First, it is restoring mangroves to strengthen adaptation to climate impacts. Second, it helps suppliers set science-based emissions targets through SBTi seminars. Third, it advances the energy transition by encouraging high-carbon partners to adopt renewable electricity. As a result, these steps create measurable pathways for reducing environmental impact throughout the supply chain.

In practice, Taiwan Mobile has already helped 25 suppliers establish emissions-reduction goals using SBTi guidelines. On average, these suppliers reduced emissions by 3%, demonstrating the tangible results of collaborative climate action. Furthermore, the company targets a 23% reduction in supply chain emissions by 2035, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainability.

Looking ahead, Taiwan Mobile will start group purchases of green power with high-carbon suppliers to accelerate renewable adoption. The company believes that integrating climate action into supplier operations will promote industry-wide transformation toward a greener economy. Experts note that telecom-led initiatives can influence other sectors to adopt similar practices.

By combining restoration projects, emissions management, and energy transition, Taiwan Mobile sets an example for corporate sustainability. In addition, the company’s initiatives highlight the growing importance of climate action in business strategies. Therefore, as more partners join, the impact of these programs could extend beyond Taiwan, contributing to global environmental goals.
