Chinese Sci-Fi Awards Celebrate Top Works

Date:

Judges officially announced the winners of the 16th Xingyun Awards for Chinese sci-fi on Saturday in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Consequently, the event celebrated top authors and simultaneously showcased the rapid growth of Chinese sci-fi literature.

Meanwhile, Yang Wanqing presented the golden trophy for the 2024 annual novel to Jintao (Golden Peaches). Set during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the novel explores a super algorithm inspired by ancient mathematical classics. Moreover, it weaves together humanity, machines, and historical development in a unique narrative.

In addition to the annual novel, judges also awarded prizes for novella, short story, non-fiction, translated fiction, and new writers. However, no one received the golden trophy for the annual review this year.

Furthermore, organizers said the event not only honors outstanding works but also highlights achievements in Chinese sci-fi. They added that it demonstrates the genre’s increasing diversity and global appeal.

Renowned science fiction author Liu Cixin praised the winners in his award speech. He explained that these works explore new possibilities for China and the world. He also added that Chinese sci-fi is entering a golden age.

The Xingyun Awards, also known as the Chinese Nebula Awards, began in 2010. Since then, they have grown into highly respected honors for Chinese-language science fiction worldwide.

In addition, industry experts noted that the awards encourage creativity and innovation among authors. They further help writers gain recognition and reach international audiences.

This year’s winners, moreover, showcase a broad range of themes, from historical speculation to futuristic technology. They clearly demonstrate how Chinese sci-fi blends culture, science, and storytelling in unique ways.

The event drew authors, publishers, and fans from across the country. During discussions, participants emphasized the genre’s potential to shape global science fiction trends.

Looking ahead, organizers plan to expand the awards’ international presence. They also aim to strengthen collaboration between Chinese authors and global sci-fi communities.

Finally, analysts said the Xingyun Awards play a key role in advancing China’s science fiction. They offer a platform for creativity, cross-cultural dialogue, and developing the next generation of writers.
