Discussions are underway regarding Enhypen member Sunghoon’s potential appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics closing ceremony in Italy. His Olympic ambassador role could also include activities at Korea House, a promotional hub during the Games. A source familiar with the matter stated that Sunghoon is preparing for a possible role in the closing ceremony. The event will take place at Verona Arena in late February 2026. However, the source did not confirm details about his visit or involvement.
Sunghoon, a K-pop idol under HYBE’s label Belift Lab, was previously a national figure skating trainee. In May, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) named him an ambassador for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Games. His Olympic ambassador role aims to promote Korean athletes and boost public interest in the Winter Olympics.
At the same time, KSOC confirmed separate discussions are ongoing with HYBE about Sunghoon’s appearance at Korea House. Korea House will serve as a cultural space to highlight Korean sports, arts, and community during the Games. However, KSOC emphasized it is not managing or coordinating the closing ceremony itself.
Despite speculation, HYBE’s public relations team denied any finalized plans. A spokesperson stated there are currently no confirmed schedules for either the closing event or Korea House. The company said it cannot comment on future appearances at this time. KSOC explained that Korea House programs usually take shape closer to the Games. Final schedules are often confirmed one to two months before the Olympics. The committee expects more clarity by December or early January.
At his appointment ceremony earlier this year, KSOC officials praised Sunghoon’s background in figure skating and entertainment. They noted his role as an Olympic ambassador could inspire young fans and draw greater attention to winter sports. The Olympic ambassador role also includes supporting lesser-known athletic events, engaging youth through public campaigns, and participating in sports education. Ambassadors may donate their talents or speak at community events to raise awareness.
If plans move forward, Sunghoon will join the few K-pop idols directly involved in Olympic-related programming. His presence could help bridge the gap between global pop culture and international sports diplomacy. Organizers are expected to make further announcements as planning for the 2026 Winter Olympics accelerates. HYBE and KSOC will likely share updates once they finalize the schedules.
