Ulaanbaatar city officials recently announced the development of the Emeelt Eco Industrial Park, which is part of the Capital’s 24 mega projects. The park will cover 539 hectares in Shar Khuvyn Khooloi, Khan-Uul District, and is located about 30 kilometers from the city center.
In addition, the project includes a 24 MW thermal power plant. It will provide electricity, heat, process steam, and hot water for the industrial park. Authorities will complete the design phase this year, then start construction in 2026, and finally commission the plant within two years.
The plant will use two low-temperature circulating fluidized bed boilers. Each boiler will produce 110–130 tons of steam per hour. Moreover, two 12 MW PT-type steam turbine generators will supply electricity. Additionally, auxiliary systems will support smooth operations. Furthermore, the plant will run in parallel with the central power grid to ensure stable energy delivery.
Officials project the plant will consume 199,000–205,000 tons of coal annually. As a result, it will generate 156 million kWh of electricity and 265,600 Gcal of heat energy. Therefore, the plant will meet the park’s full energy needs and create 185 permanent jobs.
Compared with conventional plants, the thermal station will reduce air pollution and improve fuel efficiency. It will also feature modern automated control systems. In addition, heating, water pipelines, power, and telecommunication networks will run through an underground utility tunnel for safety and reliability.
Overall, the Emeelt Eco Industrial Park integrates energy production, industrial growth, and sustainable infrastructure. Experts say that modern power generation and underground utilities will reduce environmental impact. They will also support long-term urban expansion.
Looking ahead, city planners aim to attract domestic and foreign investment. Consequently, they expect the park to stimulate economic activity and improve regional energy security. Furthermore, the project aligns with Mongolia’s broader goals of sustainable industrialization.
By combining advanced energy technology with comprehensive infrastructure, the Emeelt Eco Industrial Park will set a benchmark for modern industrial development in Mongolia. Accordingly, officials remain committed to completing design works on schedule and ensuring efficient, safe construction.
