Chen Wen-huei Wins Bronze at World Weightlifting Championships

Date:

Taiwan’s Chen Wen-huei won bronze in the women’s 69 kg clean and jerk at the World Weightlifting Championships in Norway. She lifted 132 kilograms to earn a spot on the podium. This marks a major achievement, especially given her injury and her first time competing in this weight class.

Chen Wen-huei moved up to the 69 kg category for the first time in this competition. Her coach, Huang Da-te, explained that she had been managing a back strain prior to the event. Despite the challenges, she showed steady progress throughout the competition.

In the clean and jerk, Chen successfully lifted 127 kg on her first attempt. On her second lift, she raised the bar to 132 kg, securing her bronze medal. Unfortunately, her final attempt at 136 kg ended with the bar slipping during the recovery phase.

Chen started strong in the snatch segment by lifting 100 kg on her first try. However, she was unable to lift 104 kg or 105 kg. Her combined total weight of 232 kg placed her fifth overall in the competition, though the bronze medal in the clean and jerk was a major highlight.

Coach Huang expressed satisfaction with Chen’s performance, praising her ability to improve despite physical obstacles. He noted that her focus now shifts toward preparing for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Huang also mentioned that the International Weightlifting Federation has not finalized weight class changes for the 2028 Olympics, which may affect future training.

Chen Wen-huei’s success reflects her resilience and determination. The bronze medal not only boosts her confidence but also strengthens Taiwan’s position in international weightlifting. As weight classes evolve, athletes like Chen will continue adapting to new challenges.

For now, her performance at the World Championships marks a major milestone in her career. It demonstrates her dedication to the sport and her readiness for future competitions.
