President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh honored the 14th rotation of Mongolian peacekeepers serving in South Sudan. Mongolian peacekeepers have served in South Sudan under the United Nations mission. In 2024, they carried out critical tasks, including protecting civilians, securing UN bases, and assisting with humanitarian operations. Despite the harsh conditions they faced, they performed their duties with steadfast commitment. As a result, their efforts not only bolstered Mongolia’s international reputation but also reinforced the country’s national defense policies.
President Khurelsukh awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Military Merit to Colonel Erdenebileg Dulamjav and Lieutenant Colonel Shinebayar Nyamsuren. Moreover, several other service members received the Order of Military Merit and the Medal for Peacekeeping Service in recognition of their dedication and hard work.
Currently, Mongolia deploys 896 peacekeepers to various UN missions worldwide. Of these, 14.2 percent are women, placing Mongolia 19th among 121 countries contributing troops to UN peacekeeping efforts. Furthermore, a Mongolian general now serves as the Force Commander in the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. This marks a historic achievement for Mongolia, as it is the first time a Mongolian officer has taken on this leadership role.
