Mongolian sumo wrestlers are competing in the London Basho, a significant sumo tournament held in the United Kingdom. This event runs from October 15 to 19 and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Japan Sumo Association. After a 20-year break, professional sumo returns overseas, showcasing the global reach of the sport and the rising influence of Mongolian wrestlers.

The tournament is hosted at London’s Royal Albert Hall, a prestigious venue known for cultural and sporting events. The wrestlers arrived in the city on October 12 to prepare for the competition. This marks the first major international sumo tournament since the last overseas exhibition in Las Vegas in 2005.

Leading the charge are prominent figures such as the 74th Yokozuna Hoshoryu Byambasuren Sugarragchaa and the 75th Yokozuna Onosato Daiki Nakamura. The event also features former Ozeki Kirishima Lkhagvasuren Byambachuluun and Ukrainian wrestler Aonoshiki Arata. Unfortunately, Ozeki Kotozakura will miss the tournament due to injury. The basho spans five days and will conclude with the crowning of a new champion.

This event not only promotes sumo but also fosters cultural exchange between Japan and the UK. Officials hope the basho will inspire new fans and participants worldwide.

Looking forward, the success of the London Basho could encourage more international sumo competitions. With Mongolian sumo wrestlers leading the way, the sport’s global presence is set to grow. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this historic event shapes sumo’s future. In summary, the London Basho represents an important chapter for sumo wrestling. Mongolian sumo wrestlers are at the forefront, cementing their role in the sport’s international expansion.
