Beijing hosted a high-profile demonstration highlighting women in robotics during the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. Notably, the event underscored China’s advancements in robotics and technology. Accordingly, delegates from multiple countries visited Robot World in Beijing E-Town to experience practical applications and gain insights into AI-driven innovations.
The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women commemorates the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women, which produced the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Furthermore, the conference continues to guide global efforts for women’s development and gender equality.
During the visit, participants observed service robots making coffee, humanoid robots performing tasks, and AI-powered surgical systems. For instance, UN Women’s Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, Anna Mutavati, described her first experience ordering cappuccino from a robot. She said the precision and consistency of robot-made coffee impressed her.
Similarly, African National Congress Women’s League member Boitumelo Moiloa noted that robot-made coffee offered perfectly measured ingredients. She also said the demonstration highlighted how women in robotics are transforming traditional perceptions of technology.
Moreover, a surgical robot for intracranial aneurysms drew significant attention from the delegation. The AI-assisted system achieves a success rate exceeding 90 percent and illustrates advanced applications in medicine. In addition, staff emphasized that women led the design and development, demonstrating the potential of women in robotics to influence industrial innovation.
Mutavati further remarked that witnessing women-driven technology can motivate young women in Africa to pursue careers in science and engineering. She also emphasized the importance of skill-sharing partnerships between China and African nations to advance gender equality in technology fields.
In addition, delegates saw robots performing household, medical, sports, and manufacturing tasks. Nerol Vaekesa from the Solomon Islands highlighted that technology, particularly AI, remains new in her country. She also said training both male and female students in China will equip them to promote AI adoption and gender-inclusive innovation back home.
Overall, the visit underscored the growing global role of women in robotics and technology. Experts noted that showcasing women-led innovation supports international collaboration and inspires the next generation of STEM leaders. Consequently, delegates left the event with plans to expand training programs and encourage cross-border knowledge sharing.
