China Malaysia Exercise Begins

Date:

China Malaysia exercise officially began Wednesday with the opening ceremony of the “Peace and Friendship-2025” joint military drill in Malaysia. The nine-day exercise strengthens cooperation and highlights commitment to regional security.

Representatives from both militaries attended the ceremony, which started at 10 a.m. with the national anthems of China and Malaysia. Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi bin Kamis, chief of staff at Malaysia’s Joint Forces Headquarters, and Major General Dai Bin, assistant chief of staff of the PLA Southern Theater Command, delivered remarks.

Datuk Mohamed Fauzi said the exercise provides a platform to enhance operational coordination and deepen mutual understanding. He added it demonstrates both countries’ dedication to peace, humanitarian efforts, and maritime security.

Dai Bin noted that the drill implements key agreements reached by China and Malaysia leaders. He emphasized that joint training and exchanges will build mutual trust and strengthen cooperation. The exercise also reinforces traditional friendship while addressing non-traditional security threats.

China Malaysia exercise will focus on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and maritime security. Activities will take place at Malaysia’s disaster assistance camp in Puchong, Port Klang, Subang Air Base, the National Hydrographic Centre, and the Strait of Malacca. Key exercises include live-force maritime drills, HADR operations, and Air Force exchange seminars.

Over 1,000 personnel from both sides are participating. Chinese forces come from the PLA Southern Theater Command, Hong Kong Garrison, and Guilin Joint Logistic Support Center. Malaysian forces include multi-service components.

Additionally, the exercise includes ship open days, cultural and sports exchanges, and deck receptions to strengthen military and civilian ties. Following the ceremony, troops moved to exercise locations and began drills as scheduled.

Experts say the China Malaysia exercise demonstrates rising military cooperation in Southeast Asia. They note it provides training in humanitarian readiness and strengthens regional stability.

The drill will conclude on October 23, leaving both nations with improved operational knowledge, stronger trust, and reinforced strategic ties.
